The wine is the 2014 Tikal Amorio, a Malbec based blend that is absolutely exquisite at the price. If This was from Napa, Bordeaux or Tuscany, we are talking triple the price. Tikal, named after the spiritual Mayan ruins in Guatemala, is also Ernesto's son's name.

The grapes come from the high elevation biodynamically farmed estate vineyards in Vista Flores which is in the Uco Valley in Mendoza. This is one of the sweet spots in Mendoza, Many consider Vista Flores to be the best terroir in Mendoza. Ernesto Catena's passion and what he focuses on is Malbec based blends which he feels best showcases the grapes potential and it's adaptability. Tasting Notes: Aromas of smoky oak and cherry. Mouthwatering, penetrating flavors of ripe red and black cherries and red berries. Quite rich and velvety on the palate, and finishes with just enough grip to make it a real winner with food. This is some seriously sexy Malbec.

"Dark ruby red. Wild, meaty scents of black raspberry, blackberry pastille and licorice reminded me of Syrah. Densely packed and glossy but firm, conveying an utterly seamless texture to its savory blackberry, boysenberry and violet flavors. Finishes with smooth tannins, well integrated acidity and subtle length." -Galloni

Pairs well with grilled or smoked meats such as beef, pork, and lamb. Also complements dishes prepared with cheese or cream sauces.
