A thousand year long history, that of Il Borro, having as its protagonists illustrious families who decided the fate of Tuscany, like the Pazzi, the Medici Tornaquinci and the Savoia families, right up to the current ownership of Ferruccio Ferragamo. His "fate" was decided when he was out with a hunting party Ferruccio Ferragamo fell in love with the Il Borro Estate in 1985, then still belonging to Duke Amedeo D'Aosta. For years the Ferragamo family rented the Tuscan Estate, up to 1993, when it decided to purchase the entire property, including the Medieval Village (at that time in a very poor state of repair) and the Manor house, which had been destroyed by attacks during the Second World War. What today is considered the Il Borro Estate, actually arose as a place with a long past which would be a meeting place and a source of work for residents in the area. The heart of the Estate is really the small Medieval Village which, with a history going back to far away 1039, is built on the craggy rocks of the "borro", a term used to indicate a ravine formed by the bed of a stream. Today the Estate has returned to a new splendour, thanks to the care lavished on it and the lengthy restoration work carried out by the new owners. The bygone traditions of these places live again, as they always did in the past.

TASTING NOTES:????Wine Advocate 95 points:????The 2013 Il Borro is a delicious wine that I have tasted several times over the past few months. It presents seamless aromatic integration with luscious dark fruit, proportioned doses of spice, tobacco and sweet blackberry flavors. This wine offers velvety softness and plumpness over a richly extracted mouthfeel and sweet oak tannins. The slightly cooler 2013 vintage reveals very long persistence with pretty nuances of moist earth, rum cake and cherry liqueur. This is a landmark wine from the Il Borro estate in Tuscany..May/2017

James Suckling 94 points:????Gorgeous aromas of blueberry, walnut, coffee and sage follow through to a full body, fine tannins and a polished finish. A serious red with depth and finesse. Better in 2019..July/2016
