RATINGS: 90pts Robert Parker

From the discovery of the Tautavel man to the Roman hegemony in Narbonne, via the Visigoth occupation and the Cathar heresy, Languedoc-Roussillonƒ??s past is steeped in rich history. At the beginning of the 20th Century, a phylloxera epidemic, coupled with overproduction and widespread fraud, wrought havoc for winegrowers, who subsequently decided to revolt. Since the 1950s the wines of the Languedoc have become increasingly refined, and the best estates now produce wines of truly exceptional quality. Gerard Bertrand is determined to drive this progress even further, through continued innovation and by creating internationally-renowned appellations and wines.

Gerard Bertrand, owner of several notable wine-growing estates in the South of France, is a passionate advocate of the Mediterranean art of living. The Grands Terroirs range gives wine-lovers the opportunity to discover the unique character of thisregion. Tautavel is a village in the Roussillon region, ideally located between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean. Tautavel is steeped in history, recognised as one of the cradles of human civilisation. The vineyards are planted on pebbly soils, on limestone-rich terraces and south-east facing hillsides.

Tasting Notes: Wine Advocate 90 points -Sporting a deep, saturated ruby color, the 2015 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Tautavel Grand Terroir checks in as a blend of 40% each of Grenache and Syrah, with the balance Carignan. Ripe black fruits, chocolate, licorice and smoked herbs give way to a ripe, sexy, concentrated and rounded effort thatƒ??s a classic Old World fruit bomb. Drink this beauty over the coming 5-6 years..Jeb Dunnuck, April/2017
